How does pressure affect oil yield?
On the whole, coarsely ground samples gave higher oil yields than finely ground samples. The oil yield increased with increases in pressure up to 20 MPa, after which the yield either remains unchanged or decreased. The rate of oil flow during expression was increased by increases in temperature and time of heating, and particle size.
How does temperature affect oil yield?
Generally, oil yields from coarsely ground groundnut were higher than those from finely ground samples, but the free fatty acid values were lower. Increasing the temperature did not improve the oil yield after 25 min of heating. Oil yield increased with pressures of up to 20 MPa beyond which the yield either levelled off or decreased.
How to increase oil yield & quality?
With increasing cultivation of the crop, it becomes necessary to improve the processing techniques in order to increase oil yield and quality. Mechanical expression is one of the ways by which oil is removed from oilseeds and this can be accomplished by either hydraulic or screw presses.
How does cooking temperature affect oil extraction yield?
Increasing the cooking temperature to 100 °C improves the oil extraction yield, beyond the yield decreases [with the exception of palm cooked for a short duration (5 min) at low water content] (Akinoso et al. 2006).
Does moisture affect oil yield?
Generally, an increase in moisture content leads to a decrease of the oil yield. Thus, an inverse correlation between moisture content and yield has been observed for crambe (Singh et al. 2002), rapeseed (Vadke and Sosulski 1988), flaked cooked cuphea (Evangelista and Cermak 2007), and flaxseed (Tostenson et al. 2004; Zheng et al. 2003).
